A South Florida rapper faces charges after authorities said he turned to theft, fraud and forgery to help fund his music career.
Michael Anthony Barnett, who raps under the names Third World Don and Mike Beatz, was arrested Monday on one count of grand theft, a count of organized fraud, conspiracy to commit an organized fraud scheme and four counts of issuing forged checks, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Investigators said Barnett, 32, from Jamaica and living in Broward County, used identity theft and forgery to gain control of a money market account and line of credit .
Fraudulent activities have helped finance his career in recent years, FDLE officials said.
Barnett was held at Broward County Jail, where he was being held Tuesday on $ 110,000 bail, records show. Information on the lawyer was not available.
Third World Don has over 10,000 subscribers on Soundcloud and over 68,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. He recorded modest successes with the songs “Ray Charles” in 2017 and “Blessed” in 2018.
