Pittcon announces main conference
Utrecht University professor Albert JR Heck will present
Pittcon 2022 Wallace H. Coulter Keynote speaker Prof. Albert JR Heck is Distinguished Professor at the Faculty of Science at Utrecht University. His research focuses on the development and applications of proteomics and structural biology based on mass spectrometry. Heck introduced new technologies for phospho enrichment, the use of stable isotope labeling, the use of alternative proteases and hybrid fragmentation techniques focused on peptides and proteins. Heck is also known for his expertise in structural biology, being a pioneer in native and crosslinked mass spectrometry, and glycoproteomics. Heck has coordinated several national and EU-funded proteomics facilities, such as the Netherlands Proteomics Center and Prime-XS. Heck is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Field & Franklin Prize, the Thomson Medal, the Krebs Medal and the Spinoza Prize. He is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences and Arts and EMBO.
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, September 21, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Pittcon is honored to announce that Professor Albert JR Heck will be the 2022 Wallace H. Coulter speaker. The Coulter 2022 lecture is titled New horizons in mass spectrometry: sizing and counting of particles by native mass spectrometry. The topic illustrates the broad impact of native mass spectrometry on various disciplines of the life sciences – a general topic of increased relevance in this era of epidemiological concern.
Albert JR Heck is professor emeritus at the Faculty of Science of the University of Utrecht (The Netherlands). His research focuses on the development and applications of proteomics and structural biology based on mass spectrometry. Heck introduced innovative proteomic technologies for phospho enrichment, the use of stable isotope labeling, the use of alternative proteases and hybrid fragmentation techniques focused on peptides and proteins. Heck is also known for his expertise in structural biology and glycoproteomics, and is considered a pioneer in native mass spectrometry and crosslinking.
Heck has coordinated several large-scale national and European Union-funded proteomics facilities, such as the Netherlands Proteomics Center and Prime-XS. He has received numerous awards, including the Field and Franklin Award (ACS), the Thomson Medal (IMSF), the Krebs Medal (FEBS) and the Spinoza Award (NWO). He is a member of EMBO and of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences and Arts.
A separate facet of Pittcon’s annual conference, the Wallace H. Coulter Lectureship Award recognizes an outstanding scientist who has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to science, having made significant contributions with significant impact on teaching, practice and / or scientific research in the field of laboratory sciences. The Wallace H. Coulter 2022 conference is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America, and will take place at the Sidney Marcus Auditorium at the Georgia World Congress Center during the annual conference installment of the Pittcon conference and exhibition. Details can be found at pittcon.org/technical-program/wallace-coulter-lecture.
